Playground Jungle

Tarmac burns like fire
Lizard children dart past
As break begins.

Thick books shiver as we tickle the pages
Classroom windows blink
When craneflies land on their eyes.

In the playground
Fat footballs splutter in the line.

Rubbish blows in the wind
The gutter burps as the rain pours down.

Skipping ropes turn like an elephant's tail
Children flinch when lion trainers roar.

Class lights bare their silk teeth
The car park's cat's black tongue
Lashes across the glistening back of the school site.
