Writing Tips

Tip #1

Show your pupils the Storyland posters and ask them how they would get to each place.

From flying on broomsticks into Screamsville to growing flippers and gills to reach The Blue Lagoon, this is a fantastic way to get your class excited about visiting Storyland as well as firing up their imaginations ready to get writing!

Choose from either a themed story map or use the Create Your Own version for wonderful stories from your younger pupils.

Tip #2

Split pupils into groups and give them a sheet of A3 (or bigger) and ask them to work together to create Easter Village! Who will feature? What happens there? What will it look like?

Then give pupils a Create Your Own story map (which can be downloaded from the download section) and ask them to draw and write their own Easter story (up to 250 words). Happy Easter!

Tip #3

Split your class into groups and give each group one of the four posters.

As a group pupils need to decide on their character, setting and plot. They should make notes as they go. Once ready, they can role-play their short story to the rest of the class.

Role-playing will help bring the story to life and pupils can then channel their ideas, thoughts and feelings into their own stories using either a themed story map or the Create Your Own version.
