Trick Or Treat? Spooky Poetry Competition

Spooky poetry competition open to 5-18 year-olds

Trick or Treat?

Do you love or dislike spooky season? From trick or treating to dressing up to creepy window displays and parties, it’s a tradition that’s found a place in British culture.

You could write an acrostic using a spooky word, or a sense poem bringing October time to life. Perhaps a ghostly-inspired riddle poem is more your style? You could try writing a rap poem or using rhyming couplets, and of course, free verse lets you explore any subject and write your poem in your own style...

Whatever your thoughts about this time of year, write a poem and let us know. Selected poems will feature in a special anthology and the best poem will win a creative writing goody bag PLUS 2 x runners-up will each receive a £10 national book token.

If you need some inspiration to write your poem, check out the Exploring Poetry Types blog to help you decide which poetry style to use.

Once you have written your poem, make sure your name, age and full postal address are included, then SEND YOUR ENTRY TO REACH US BY: 7th November 2021!

Post your entry to Trick Or Treat, Young Writers, Remus House, Coltsfoot Drive, Peterborough PE2 9BF.

OR email your poem to [email protected]

OR upload your entry at www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions/enter

We can't wait to read your work!
