Meet the team- Ben Reeves, Programmer and Business Developer

We chat with Young Writers' programmer and toolkit creator Ben about his role here, and why he loves Young Writers.

So tell us a little about yourself Ben:

First of all, I love writing! I've been writing fiction for about 15 years now, and I really enjoy it. For 10 of those years, I've worked for Young Writers as a programmer and business developer. I also run a YouTube channel called 21st Century Writer, which is all about writing and supporting other writers to develop their skills.

What is it that you love about Young Writers?

I think it's amazing how much we inspire young people to write, whether it's through our competitions or our resources. I want to keep expanding on those resources to help young people as much as possible.

What is your favourite thing to write about?

I love to write about very strange fantastical things. I also love to write about very down-to-earth realistic things, so my favourite kind of story to write is one that combines both of those!

What's the best project you've ever been involved in?

I'm really enjoying something I'm working on for Young Writers at the moment, which is an online world full of educational games. Watch this space!

Why did you want to create the Young Writers toolkit, why do you think it's important?

I think writing is incredibly important, especially fiction. I believe fiction helps us understand ourselves, and the world better. My mission is always to help inspire the next generation of writers, and the toolkit is an amazing place to start. I wish I'd had the toolkit when I started my writing journey!

Tell us a little more about your YouTube channel 21^st Century writer

I don't make any money from it, it's a channel I run purely for the passion of writing. On the channel, I offer weekly writing advice, tips, and general chit-chat, and I think it's a great resource for new and advanced writers alike.
