This year we celebrate working with schools, young writers and parents for an amazing 25 years!

As a special birthday treat we have giveaways, sales, competitions as well as granting 25 wishes to schools and pupils thoughout the year.

A massive thank you to everyone who has and continues to support Young Writers!

Our Timeline

  • 1991

    Young Writers founded by Ian and Tracey Walton.

  • March 1999

    Moved from Wainman Road to Remus House

  • September 1999

    Scribber! Magazine for 7-11 year-olds is launched

  • February 2000

    Wordsmith Magazine for 11-16 year-olds is launched

  • 2001

    A Poetry Odyssey, poetry competition for secondary schools, received the highest amount of entries ever received for one mailing, an amazing 52,037!

  • 2001

    Poetic Voyages, poetry competition for primary schools, received the highest amount of entries ever received for one mailing, a staggering 89,208!

  • October 2001

    First creative writing competition launched; A Day in the Life of...

  • January 2004

    Poetry competition packs now get sent each term rather than once a year

  • June 2009

    Creative writing competition packs now get sent each term rather than once a year

  • 2010

    Young Writers becomes part of the Bonacia Family

  • September 2013

    Orion launched; Young Writers' new and much-improved system which offers online accounts for parents and teachers

  • December 2013

    Scribbler! and Wordsmith magazines close; the content is moved online for free!

  • February 2014

    The new Young Writers website is launched

  • February 2014

    The Young Writers' website is made mobile-responsive

    Celebrating 25 years of Young Writers from January to December!
