Bouquet of Photo Flowers

What you will need:

Card, in different colours

Glue

Photos

Scissors

Sellotape

Green pipe cleaners

Optional: patterned paper

How to make it:

1. Cut the photos into circles to be used as the centre of the flower.

2. Cut simple flower shapes out of the coloured paper.

3. Glue the photos you have to the centre of the each flower.

4. Now, decorate your flower shape with glitter, stickers or coloured pens.

5. Tape the green pipe cleaners to the back of each flower, making sure that the tape is secure.

6. Trim ends of the pipe cleaner to the length you desire, depending on what you are using as a vase. If making a hand held bouquet, don't trim the pipe cleaners; simply tie a ribbon bow around them all.

Flower Cookies

Prep: 30 mins
Bake: 15 mins
Serves: 10

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180°c (160°c fan, Gas Mark 4). Line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper.

2. Sift the flour and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and add rose water. Then rub the butter in the mix until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.

3. Lightly beat the egg and golden syrup together, and then add to the flour and mix to make a dough.

4. Leave to chill for 20 minutes.

5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to ½cm thick. Cut out your flower shapes either free hand or by using a flower shaped cutter. If you would like to make a flower stem, carefully insert a lolly stick into the bottom of the flower, flattening the dough over the stick. Place on a baking tray, leaving a gap between each flower as they will expand in the oven.

6. Bake for 15 minutes. Leave on the tray for 10 minutes then move them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

7. Once the cookies are cool you can decorate. Roll out half of the white sugar paste and cut slightly smaller flower shapes out of it. Then attach them to the flower biscuits using a small amount of water. Colour the other half of the sugar paste icing with food colouring and then roll out and cut out more flower shapes. Chocolate sweets such as smarties are great as the centre of the flower. You could also simply pipe around the outline of the flower cookies and decorate with sweets of your choice and sprinkles!

Handprint Heart Card

1. Fold the piece of card in half.

2. Place your hand on the folded card with your fingers spread out. The thumb and index finger should be just touching the fold.

3. Trace your hand onto the piece of card using a pencil or ask a adult to help you.

4. Carefully cut out the space between the thumb and the index finger. This will form the heart shape when unfolded. Make sure you don't cut through the fold where the fingers join.

5. Next cut out the outline of the fingers.

6. Now unfold the card. You should have a hand-shaped card with a heart in the middle!

7. Decorate your handprint card. Be as creative as you like and try to make the cards personal to Mum!

To ,

You are the best mum ever,

You are and clever.

I love it when you with me

Being with you makes me happy.

If I were rich I'd take you to for the day

Where we'd and play.

I'd buy you flowers, a nice big bunch

Then we'd go to for lunch.

I'd get you a nice new to wear.

Just to show you how much I care.

But for now I can give you cuddles and kisses for free,

So I'll give you lots, my super special mummy!

Love from .

Mum in a Million Competition

‘Mum’, ‘Mummy’, ‘Mother’ – whatever name you use, your mother figure plays an important role in your life. Always present when you need her, offering love and support, Mum devotes her time to her children. She goes through life giving selflessly but not always receiving the praise she deserves. With Mother's Day coming up in March, we want you to send in your poetry in celebration of your mother or mother figure, because a mum can come in many forms. It could be a stepmum, grandmother or female figure who has always been there for you.

What would you like to say to her? Would you like to give thanks for all the things she's done for you or tell her why she is such a huge part of your life? What is it about her that is so special and makes her better than the rest? Whatever you would like to write for her, we want you to be a part of this tribute to motherhood.

We will select our favourite poems for inclusion in a special anthology and select one winner who will win a luxury bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates to be sent to their mother figure. Poems should be no longer than 30 lines and should have a completed entry form attached.

You'll need to have written your poem first to enter online! Go to Poem Template if not.
