by Joan Aiken
Author: Joan Aiken
Despite dying in 1817, Jane Austen, author of witty Regency-era romances such as Pride and Prejudice, remains a huge favourite with readers across the world. In Mansfield Revisited award-winning writer Joan Aiken steps into Austen's shoes and delves into the world of the Mansfield Park characters to imagine what might have happened to them next.
The story follows headstrong teenager Susan Price who is left to manage the Bertram household after the death of her uncle and the departure of her sister and brother-in-law to the West Indies. There are new friends to be made and old grievances to be dealt with as unexpected visitors arrive in the village. Those readers familiar with Mansfield Park will find many characters they recognise (such as Lady Bertram and Fanny Price), but the story is also perfectly able to stand on its own if you haven't read the earlier novel.

With old-fashioned language and lots of character names to remember, this sometimes challenging read will not be for everyone. But if you are a fan of historical and/or romantic fiction then this is sure to entertain and absorb.
Suited to readers 12 and over.
