H is For Hawk
by Helen Mcdonald
Author: Helen Mcdonald
Helen's motivation wasn't her favourite author here it was a childhood memory as a young girl reading about a Goshawk in T H White's 'A Sword In The Stone' and actually feeling furious with the author for his descriptions of the Hawk. She was angry and it motivated her to write and keep writing following the sudden death of her beloved father.
She needed to tell her story - to strive to tell her truths about her passion for the Goshawk which began with her father on their nature adventures.
Today, I was helping her to repair a clay model of a Hawkafter the weather had taken its toll on the clay and glazing. Broken wings and cracked plumage.
This was a symbolic of Helen's story a gradual and patient reparing of her life again after it was broken after her father's sudden death.
