The Medusa Project: The Set-Up
by Sophie Mckenzie

Author: Sophie Mckenzie
RRP: £6.99

Sophie Mckenzie introduces us to the beginnings of a great saga with this fast-paced book, the first of the collection, The Medusa Project. We are thrown into the story where four babies, unbeknownst to them, are implanted with a gene that gives them psychic abilities, however killing their mother's during child birth.
Ed, the cocky telekinetic, Nico, an introverted mind-reader, Dylan, able to withstand physical pain with her mind, and Ketty, a clairvoyant. All four are discovering their hidden abilities and tensions form between them as they uncover they are being targeted by a secret government task force who wishes to exploit their unique powers.
Mckenzie immediately grabs the readers attention, with short snappy chapters packed full with action and excitement. This book is easy to pick up and difficult to put down. The somewhat simple settings and descriptions allow you to whiz through the story and get the plot quickly.
Howevever we view this book through Ed's eyes, who is deceived into committing cruel acts countless times. He became increasingly conflicted whilst venturing deeper into the tale; Ed's character transformed into a person that made me question my own morality.
Neverthless, I would recommend this novel to young adults as there are a view mature ideas discussed, such as deception, violence and with some romance.
Mckenzie provides an epic climax and thrilling tale. I cant wait to read the next book in the series!
