Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

This book in set in Soho, in London, It is in the late nineteenth century. The author of this book is Robert Louis Stevenson. The genre of this book is gothic. This book is mostly about Dr. Jekyll trying to get Mr. Hyde under control because otherwise he would turn into Mr. Hyde forever.

The main characters are Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Utterson. Dr. Jekyll is a well-known doctor in the community. He is a friend with Mr. Utterson and Dr. Lanyon. Mr. Hyde is the other half of dr. Jekyll but he is pure evil. Mr. Enfield describes Mr. Hyde in his story as not a man “It wasn’t like a man, It was like some damned juggernaut.” Many people describe Mr. Hyde as ugly. Mr Utterson is a lawyer and not a man of science, he believes in supernatural things and is keen to find out the connection of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Dr Lanyon is a doctor and also a close friend of Dr. Jekyll but they recently have fallen out. Mr. Enfield is a distant relative of Mr. Utterson, Together they go on a Sunday walks. Poole is Dr. Jekyll’s butler.

The plot is not very complicated but it starts with Mr. Enfield and Mr. Utterson on their Sunday stroll. Mr. Enfield tells a story about this man who knocked out a little girl, everyone screamed at him but he decided to give a cheque. This man is none other than Mr. Hyde. Later a woman saw Mr. Hyde beat Sir Danvers to death but Mr. Hyde wasn’t to be found. Mr. Utterson visits Dr. Jekyll and he says he has ended relation with Mr. Hyde and also he shows Mr. Utterson a letter where My Hyde has apologized. Mr. Utterson sees that Mr. Hyde’s handwriting is similar to Dr. Jekyll’s. One day Poole and Mr. Utterson break into Dr. Jekyll’s lab and sees Mr. Hyde dead.

The ending of this book is a letter from Dr. Jekyll telling the readers what actually happened. He says he made a potion, which he used to turn into Mr. Hyde and he said “ I had now two characters well as two appearances, one was wholly evil and the other was still the old Henry Jekyll. “ He said day by day Mr. Hyde became powerful and was harder to control also he doesn’t know what will happen in the future.
