The Butterfly Effect

Perhaps if a butterfly flew past
Everything would change
Maybe the sea would be calm
And the tide wouldn't come in
Or if someone had stopped him in the streets
Maybe he wouldn't have gone
And taken his life with him.

He was always on that skateboard
Doing flips and tricks
Dressing up like movie characters
And leaping about the room
Maybe if I had been there
I could have saved him.

But there was no butterfly
And there was no wind
The ocean swallowed him up
Never to be seen again
And now I bid you farewell
Rest in peace, my beautiful brother.
