Officer Verity, the murky-eyed, sleep-ridden officer, was poised. Tired but poised. The telecom buzzed out a message from one of his junior officers. Moments later blue and red lights flashed as the officer became the enemy of sleep, now all too awake. He had been sent a haunting photograph: a dagger savagely plunged into a girl's chest, her lips savaged and smeared, blood blanketing them in a horrifying smile. On her exposed throat were written, in blood, the words, 'The frog prince has left his kiss'.
