Desert Terror

In the uninhabited desert my grip tightened on my sword. The shadows shifted as the moon rose. Out of nowhere, in a shower of sand, a monstrous jet-black scorpion erupted from its concealed lair. It was huge; armour like steel, evil crimson eyes, glistening cobalt poison dripping from its deadly tail. We circled each other warily. My knuckles were white and my eyes narrowed. I slashed repeatedly at the murderous beast, missing. The final time, I hit it between its desperate rabid eyes. Without warning, it disintegrated into a pile of gold dust. Exhausted, I continued my dangerous quest.
