Straining my tired limbs, I rolled onto a thick mantle of white. I had completed what I had always dreamed of... I was at the summit of Mount Everest. Exhausted, I gasped for each precious breath. The air was too thin! In my joy, I had forgotten the deadly danger. Time was mortally against me. I stumbled up but felt a horrifying crack beneath my feet. Quickly I rolled onto the snowy rock below. But I went too far! I slewed across the ice, just stopping at the lip of a deep crevasse.
I contemplated the impossible journey home...
