Droning in the floodlit sky
Sirens burst our ears
Reducing towns to nothing
Our faces sting with tears.

In the mornings we emerge
From shelters underground
Slowly as the grey smoke clears
Odd treasures can be found.

Amongst the rubble of our lives
We stand in devastation
Try and destroy us, as they might
They will not crush our nation.

Our men and women stood as one
Proud and strong and brave
Now poppies grow where their blood was spilled
To remind us what they gave.
