The Sunset

When dinner finishes, I hasten to the window and stare out at the brilliant sunset. It seems like a great fire is blazing across the sky of our little Polish town of Krakow; magnificent reds, radiant pinks and extravagant oranges. Suddenly I spy them out the corner of my eye. Soldiers. Nazis. Heading for our house. 'Mami!' I yell, 'the Nazis are here!'
'Leia,' she replies, her voice shaking, 'close the curtains and go to your room, now!'
They are so close I can hear them shouting, 'Heil Hitler!' I rush to my room. The sunset fades. They are here...
