Encouraging the enjoyment and participation of poetry from a young age, is a great way to enthuse reading for life, as well help develop vocabulary. Our My First Poem Senses competition is a fun way for children to try poetry, with the help of an adult, as well as explore a subject of their choice using their senses.
We've created a fun mind-map poster for key workers as well as providing stickers to acknowledge children's participation, plus an activity for each sense, which are on the Senses competition page. Children can also draw a picture to accompany their poem. All the resources for My First Poem Senses are available to download for free at: www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions/senses.php
As well as the opportunity to be published, the best poet in each regional collection will have their artwork turned into the book's front cover! There's £1,000 for nurseries up for grabs too.
Congratulations to Daisy Chain Day Care Nursery, Essex who won £1,000 in our My First Story competition. We will be announcing the winning nursery for My Day At... in June 2014.
To take part all nurseries/pre-schools and individuals need to do is submit their senses poem by Friday 9th May 2014. Please see the competition page for further information: www.youngwriters.co.uk/competitions/senses.php
