April

Dear Teacher,

It's a new term and we have our fab poetry competitions back for one last time! If you missed out on entering your pupils into any of the competitions below don't forget to request your free resources and enter by the 26th May 2017.

Poetry Safari (KS1)
Introduce younger pupils to poetry and help them create their own original poem inspired by animals with Poetry Safari!

From wild animals and sea creatures to pets and dinosaurs, pupils can write about any animal they choose. They could even make their own crazy creation!

Once Upon A Dream (KS2)
Encourage your pupils to write a poem inspired by their dreams. Whether it's a real-life aspiration, a wonderful world created inside their mind or even influenced by a nightmare or fear, Once Upon A Dream is a fantastic was for pupils to express themselves! Don't forget to check out the BFP (The Big Friendly Poet's video lesson!)

Busta Rhyme (KS3/4)
Give your students the opportunity to write a poem about something they feel passionately about. Here's their chance to voice opinion, share a memory or dilemma, impart advice, or indulge in writing about something they adore.

From ballads and odes to rhymes and free verse, what inspires your students?

This month we had the opportunity to interview the illustrator of the fantastic 'Taking Flight - How the Wright Brothers Conquered the Skies', Adam Hancher.

Taking Flight is the first book in a new biographical series titled 'Dare to Dream', a series dedicated to inspirational figures throughout history to inspire children and young adults that with determination and courage they can make their dreams come true.

We also have a copy of 'Taking Flight' up for grabs on our blog so make sure you come and see how you could win this for your class!
