Is It A Bird... Is It A Plane... No, It's Let's Get Writing Superhero Stories!

Young Writers has launched their latest creative writing competition for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils in primary schools across the UK.

The national writing project invites 5-11 year-olds to create a superhero, then draft, plan and write a short story based on the superhero they’ve created. Selected stories will then be selected for publication.

As well as encouraging, motivating and inspiring young writers to pick a pen and get creative, there are also great prizes up for grabs for both schools and pupils. The best set of school entries, as chosen by our Editorial team, will win a full day’s creative writing workshop package with well-known poet and author Roger Stevens. The top 5 pupils, as picked by Roger Stevens, will be awarded £50 in National Book Tokens and win their school their very own page on Young Writers’ website, where their school’s writing talent can be showcased to the world!

Let’s Get Writing Superhero Stories is free to enter and everything teachers and pupils need to take part is available for free download at Young Writers’ website: To support teachers Young Writers provides free teacher resources in line with the National Curriculum, from lesson plans and planning sheets to interactive PowerPoint presentations. Let’s Get Writing Superhero Stories has a host of extra resources too, from story scenario suggestions, a superhero book reading list, homework help sheets to superhero mask templates, cross-curricular ideas, a superhero profile sheet and much more. Don’t forget all the resources are free!
