Where did you draw inspiration for your newest book Furthermore?
I wrote this book at a very happy time in my life, and the story was, in the end, an expression of joy from top to bottom.
How do you come up with all these magical and whimsical, colourful creations for your stories?
I'm really not sure... I think I might still be too close to the project to know how to analyze it properly. But I will say that, in many ways, writing this book was like penning a love letter to all of my favorite childhood stories. I think I was, subconsciously, trying to capture that spirit of adventure I felt while reading books like Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, The Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, everything by Roald Dahl... I could go on.
In Furthermore, Alice is missing the magic and colour of that everyone around her has, does this represent any aspects of today’s society?
Certainly; Alice is outcast from her people simply because of the way she looks. It's a story that strives to capture that feeling of Otherness and its profound impact on a young heart and mind. In the end, this book is about the power of self-love and the importance of understanding a simple truth: That to be different is to be extraordinary.
Your amazing series Shatter Me is said to be in production to be aired on TV, how do you feel about this?
Excited! And cautiously optimistic. Fingers crossed it all continues to go smoothly...
What is the production process like taking book to screen?
It's slow but fun. There's a bit of journey involved in adapting a series of novels for television.
What difficulties have you encountered during the process of transforming your book into a TV show?
No difficulties at the moment, as we're still very early on in the process.
