Get your pupils gripped with creative writing as they write their own mini saga, a story told in just 100 words, with a twist. 

Your pupils could write an original story with a twist or retell a classic tale with a new spin, helping them to build confidence in writing as they focus their ideas and consider their word choices to write their mini saga.

The online resources offer lesson plans that cover writing a mini saga and how to add a twist to the tale, as well as story starter ideas & how to create a character so you can create an immersive unit or use it as a stand-alone lesson.

There’s a fantastic video that introduces your pupils to the activity in just 1 minute! It’s guaranteed to create excitement, banish boredom, and lets you enjoy seeing your whole class engaged!

We also have The Magic Door open for this age range, feel free to mix and match resources and ideas, you know what will inspire your pupils most!

For every 30 entries you submit you get a free copy of the book your pupils feature in so every participating school receives at least 1 free copy.

Only one entry per pupil, there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries altogether where possible!

Ask your pupils to write their mini saga (or an adult can scribe/type it), ensuring their name, age and school name are included.

Mini sagas can be on any of the entry forms or an A4 sheet of paper or typed (on a computer or in the Online Writing Portal).

Pupils' mini sagas must be their own work!

Mini sagas have a 100-word limit.

Story starters are optional but must be included in the 100-word limit.

Open to 5-11 year-olds.

The school that submits the best overall set of entries will win The Young Writers' Award of Excellence and a £100 National Book Token for their class.

PLUS a complimentary copy of the book your pupils feature in! (Remember, you receive 1 free copy for every 30 entries you submit! E.g. 1-30 entries you receive 1 copy, 31-60 entries you receive 2 copies, etc)
