[Title] => Wild Wonders
[Description] => Poetry competition for 4-18 year-olds
[Subheading] => Celebrate the wonders of the natural world
[Age] => Ideal For 4-18
[Intro] =>
From the loud roar of a lion to the soft flutter of a butterfly’s wings, nature is full of amazing sights and sounds. This is your pupils' chance to celebrate the wonders of our world and to share why it matters.
Do they love the tall trees of the rainforest, or the gentle beauty of a field of wildflowers? Maybe they’re fascinated by colourful coral reefs, or whales gliding through deep blue water. They can write about a favourite animal, the places they love outdoors, or how we can protect our environment for the future.
Encourage your pupils to look at the natural world around them and put their ideas down on paper. Poems can be written in any style, so pupils can explore techniques that inspire them - haiku or acrostic, free verse or riddles.
Download the entry form, or ask pupils to type up their poem. Then you can email, upload, or post entries to us. See the How to Enter tab for all the details.
Poems have the opportunity to be published in a special anthology, and our favourite entry will win a prize!
We can’t wait to read your pupils’ poems and see how they bring the natural world to life.
[Rules] =>
- Only one entry per pupil; there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers, please submit your entries together where possible! Please use one teacher entry form for each teacher entering.
- Ask your pupils to write their piece (or an adult can scribe/type it), ensuring their name, age and school name are included. (Initials or first name only can be submitted)
- Work can be on the entry form or an A4 sheet of paper, or typed (on a computer or in the Online Writing Portal).
- Poems can be written in any poetic style & use any poetic techniques.
- Copyright remains with the author.
- UK entrants only.
- Free to enter.
- Pupils' work must be their own! (Please note on the entry if there is anything we need to take into consideration when reading the work.)
[School Prizes] => Participating schools receive a free copy of the book their pupils feature in.
[Student Prizes] =>
Our favourite poet will win an animal adoption pack and a £10 National Book Token.
Every entrant receives a bookmark and those poets whose work we'd like to publish also receive a certificate of merit. The winner will be announced shortly after the publication date.
