Writing about animals is a great way to explore creative words and rhymes. You can write about any kind of animal, from cute kittens to enormous elephants, and use any style of poetry you wish, from acrostic to riddles. You can write about your own pets, mythical beasts, dinosaurs or even make up your own creatures! Perhaps you could write a poem from the perspective of a puppy, or about endangered species in the wild. Poems can be any format, up to thirty lines long, just write your poem and post, email, or upload it through our website.

What happens now?

Our editorial team will read every single entry. Any child whose work they'd love to publish in a book will be sent a letter and certificate. Children whose work hasn't met the competition criteria will have the chance to resubmit their work. Winners will be chosen from published pieces once all the books in the series have been published.
