Is your favourite person a sports star, or a musician, or is it your mum or dad, or brother or sister? Perhaps you admire your best friend or your favourite author the most? Whoever you aspire to be like, grab your pen and tell us what makes them so special. Use the power of poetry to tell us why they’re your idol, using any style or form, from haikus to rhymes to acrostics.

We will select our favourites for publication in our Poetry Idol anthologies, and the best poet per publication will win a selection of books for themselves and a luxury hamper to be sent to a person of their choice. Poems should be no longer than thirty lines and must include your name, age, and postal address.

What happens now?

Our editorial team will read every single entry. Any child whose work they'd love to publish in a book will be sent a letter and certificate. Children whose work hasn't met the competition criteria will have the chance to resubmit their work. Winners will be chosen from published pieces once all the books in the series have been published.
