Monster Mayhem is perfect for your classroom because it's an inclusive activity that allows all pupils to get creative, and you can hit your learning objectives!

Introduce a literacy link by asking pupils to label their pictures with adjectives or expanded noun phrases, or check out even more curriculum links here.

Will their monsters be slimy or scaly? Funny or scary? Cute and fluffy friends or creepy critters in the dark? The possibilities are endless, which is why your pupils will LOVE creating their monsters - they can really let their imaginations run wild!

Drawings will feature in a series of Monster Mayhem books, showcasing the children's artwork in vivid colour and giving your pupils a real sense of pride and achievement.

Drawings must be on the entry form, which you can download from the Downloads tab above. ⬆️

With minimal prep for you and maximum fun for your pupils, everyone will love taking part in Monster Mayhem!

If any of your pupils would like to write a story about their monster, check out Ridiculous Writers! It's ideal for 7-12 year-olds, but younger children are also welcome to enter.

Online entries MUST be scanned for upload/email. We cannot accept photos of entries. Download our guide for scanning options. (Originals can also be posted)
Only one entry per pupil.
There is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries together where possible! (Use one Teacher Entry Form for each teacher entering).
Entries must be the child's own work - no AI-generated images please!
Ask your pupils to draw on the entry form. It must fit in the space provided.
Any labels or descriptions must also fit in the space provided.
Ensure their name, age and school name are included. (Entries can be submitted with first names only or initials if needed.)
UK entrants only.
Free to enter.
Ideal for 5-7 year-olds, but pupils outside that age range are welcome to enter.
Copyright remains with the artist.

[School Prizes] =>

The school that submits the best overall set of entries from the summer drawing competitions will win £1000 and Young Writers' Award of Excellence.

PLUS every participating school receives a free copy of the book their pupils feature in!

Remember, you receive 1 free copy for every 30 entries you submit! E.g. 1-30 entries you receive 1 copy, 31-60 entries you receive 2 copies, etc.

(School winner will be chosen from across both Monster Mayhem and Super Me entrants, and will be announce in the Autumn term.)

[Student Prizes] =>

One drawing from each book will be picked as a finalist and their picture will feature on the front cover & they will be awarded a £10 National Book Token. From these finalists, 5 artists will be chosen to win an awesome kit to make their own den!

PLUS
Every entrant receives a bookmark and sticker. All young artists whose work we'd like to publish will receive a certificate of merit.

(Winners will be chosen from all drawing entries across Monster Mayhem and Super Me received May-July 2026. Finalists will be notified when their book is published. The overall prizes will be sent in the autumn term. Prize image is an example, contents may differ.)

What happens now?

Our editorial team will read every single entry. Any child whose work they'd love to publish in a book will be sent a letter and certificate. Children whose work hasn't met the competition criteria will have the chance to resubmit their work. Winners will be chosen from published pieces once all the books in the series have been published.
