Invite creativity into your classroom with Monster Mayhem, the latest drawing competition to inspire your pupils.

Will their monsters be slimy or scaly? Funny or scary? Will they be cute fluffy monsters or creepy critters that live in the dark? The possibilities are endless, which is why your pupils will LOVE creating their monsters - they can be anything they want them to be!

You can also introduce a literacy link by asking pupils to label their pictures with adjectives or expanded noun phrases.

Drawings will feature in a series of Monster Mayhem books, showcasing the children's artwork in vivid colour. We will pick one picture from each book to feature on the front covers, and from those finalists we'll pick 5 overall winners who will each win an awesome goody bag to make a super fun den!

There is also a school prize of £1,000 to be won.

Drawings must be on the entry form, which you can download from the Downloads tab above. Alternatively, request as many as you need from the Printed Resources tab and save your printing costs - we'll print and post them out to you for free.

With minimal prep for you and maximum fun for your pupils, everyone will love taking part in Monster Mayhem, so get involved today!

Online entries MUST be scanned for upload/email. We cannot accept photos of entries. Download our guide for scanning options. (Originals can also be posted)
Only one entry per pupil.
There is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries together where possible! (Use one Teacher Entry Form for each teacher entering).
Entries must be the child's own work - no AI-generated images please!
Ask your pupils to draw on the entry form. It must fit in the space provided.
Any labels or descriptions must also fit in the space provided.
Ensure their name, age and school name are included. (Entries can be submitted with first names only or initials if needed.)
UK entrants only.
Free to enter.
Ideal for 4-7 year-olds, but pupils outside that age range are welcome to enter.
Copyright remains with the artist.

The school that submits the best overall set of entries will win £1,000 and Young Writers' Award of Excellence.

PLUS every participating school receives a free copy of the book their pupils feature in!

(Remember, you receive 1 free copy for every 30 entries you submit! E.g. 1-30 entries you receive 1 copy, 31-60 entries you receive 2 copies, etc)

[Student Prizes] =>

One drawing from each book will be picked as a finalist and their picture will feature on the front cover & they will be awarded a £10 National Book Token. From these finalists, 5 artists will be chosen to win an awesome kit to make their own den!

PLUS
Every entrant receives a bookmark and sticker. All young artists whose work we'd like to publish will receive a certificate of merit.

(Winners will be chosen from entries received in the Spring Term 2026. Finalists will be notified when their book is published. The overall prizes will be sent in the following term. Prize image is an example, contents may differ.)

What happens now?

Our editorial team will read every single entry. Any child whose work they'd love to publish in a book will be sent a letter and certificate. Children whose work hasn't met the competition criteria will have the chance to resubmit their work. Winners will be chosen from published pieces once all the books in the series have been published.
