Celebrating all creative writing styles up to 1,000 words

Inspire 4-18 year-olds to showcase their best piece of work!

By entering Young Writers’ Annual Showcase 2022, entrants have the chance to be published in a real book and every entrant receives a bookmark to thank them for taking part. Writers selected for publication also receive a special Annual Showcase certificate.

It's a fantastic way for pupils to pick the piece of work they are most proud of writing this academic year. However, should any pupils want to write a new piece of work to enter they are more than welcome to.

Rules

To make sure your entries are valid, please follow the rules listed below:

  • Only one entry per pupil, there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries altogether where possible!

  • Can choose best piece of work they have written this academic year OR write new piece

  • 1,000 word limit

  • Each pupil's name, age and school name must be included on each page of their entry

  • Entries can be a photocopy, typed, handwritten or scribed by an adult

  • All genres and styles of writing are welcome to be submitted

  • Work entered into the showcase will be considered for publication in the Young Writers' Annual Showcase 2022

  • Entries must be the entrant's own original work

  • Entries must not have been published before

For Entrants

A winner in each age category will be chosen once the showcase is published in winter 2022: 

  • 4 year-olds
  • 5-7 year-olds
  • 8-11 year-olds
  • 12-15 year-olds
  • 16-18 year-olds

Each winner will receive £100 and a trophy.

Tip #1

Entrants have up to 1,000 words but they don't have to write that much - just what they feel is their best piece of work!

Tip #2

Write a series of poems on a theme such as animals, the rainbow, favourite things – this could be rhyme, free verse, acrostics, haikus, etc
