The Glitch
Creative Writing Competition | 11-18 Years

A sudden shift, a twist of fate, and bam! Everything changes!
Let imaginations run wild and create confident writers as your students consider the consequences of The Glitch.
What happens when an ordinary day turns extraordinary? What are the effects on the world if one thing is changed forever? What thrilling or terrifying outcomes are unleashed if one mishap alters reality? These are the questions we're asking 11-18 year-olds to consider for this mini saga competition.
The possibilities are infinite, which allows students to write about what excites them, engaging them with creative writing. The 100-word limit takes away the fear of long-form writing, allowing them to focus on the action and compels them to carefully consider vocabulary and word choice.
There are fantastic resources to support both you and your students to help them get writing including:
💥 Model example stories from previous winning entrants
💥 Optional story starters to fire up imaginations
💥 Lesson plan and PowerPoint on speculative fiction writing
💥 A second lesson plan on writing with atmosphere, suspense and tension
💥 Story planning sheet with word bank
💥 Mini activities to help spark ideas
Writing for the purpose of being published in a real book is always guaranteed to capture students' attention, and the exciting video will make them eager to get started, creating a real buzz in your classroom, so get your whole school involved today! We can't wait to see how your students rewrite reality for The Glitch!
Closing Date: 22nd December 2023.
