Writing Tips

Tip #1

It's World Book Day on 5th March so why not use this super fun day to inspire your pupils with Ridiculous Writers?

You could

  • Mashup book titles to create crazy combos to write about
  • Let pupils be inspired by their classmates' character costumes
  • Ask pupils to bring in their favourite books and work in small groups to create crazy ideas to write about based on their books

Just have fun being ridiculous...

Bring books and writing to life this Thursday in style!

Tip #2

It's British Science Week - the perfect way to marry science and English!

Ask your pupils to create nouns and adjectives/verb ideas to pop in two separate pots.
They then pick one noun and one adjective/verb to create a crazy combo to write about.

  • The Forgetful Scientist
  • The Clumsy Experiment
  • The Annoying Astronaut
  • The Ugly Fossil
  • The Unknown Creature
  • The Lost Alien
  • The Confused Storm
  • The Wacky Invention

Science is almost as much fun as creative writing!

Tip #3

Taking part in Share A Million Stories? It's a new literacy campaign through the World Book Day organisers that you can use with Ridiculous Writers

Here's how...

  • Read a funny story with your class (written by awesome authors such as Roald Dahl or David Walliams).
  • Talk about what they liked and what they didn't.
  • Talk about other funny stories they have read (What about Jeremy Strong's 'My Brother's Famous Bottom?')
  • What makes these stories ridiculous and can your pupils make them more so?
