A fantastic way to get them excited about writing as they create a crazy creature and write a story about it...
There's nothing more fascinating than a child's imagination, and with Crazy Creatures your pupils can let their imaginations roam free as they design and create their very own monster and then write a mini saga, a story told in up to 100 words.
From a cute fluffball with a nasty bite to a giant monstrosity who just wants to make friends, the possibilities are endless and your pupils can have fun whilst putting the writing skills and techniques they've learnt into practice.

Crazy Creatures is ideal for 7-12 year-olds but pupils outside this age range are welcome to enter the competition.

Competition Rules
To make sure your entries are valid, please follow the rules listed below:
- Closing Date: Friday 22nd December 2023
Only one entry per pupil, there is no limit to the number of entries per school. Teachers please submit your entries altogether where possible!
Mini sagas can be submitted on the entry form or an A4 sheet of paper or typed (on a computer or using the Online Writing Portal or Word Doc entry form)
Mini sagas must be your pupils' own work.
Each pupil's name, age and school name should be included on their entry. (Entries can be submitted with first names only or initials if needed.)
Mini sagas have a 100-word limit.
If a story starter/ending is used, it must be included in the 100-word limit.
Ensure you have the relevant permissions to enter from your headteacher/SLT, if this is required by your school or trust. (We can complete any Cyber Security or GDPR forms required, please email them over!)

For Schools
The school that submits the best set of entries will win the Young Writers' Award of Excellence and a £100 National Book Token.
PLUS every participating school receives a free copy of the book their pupils feature in!
(Remember, you receive 1 free copy for every 30 entries you submit! E.g. 1-30 entries you receive 1 copy, 31-60 entries you receive 2 copies, etc.)
For Pupils
Our 10 favourite published writers will each win a fantastic creative writing goody bag!
PLUS
Every entrant receives a bookmark and sticker, and we award a certificate of merit for all young writers chosen for publication.
(School and pupil winners will be chosen from entries received in the Autumn Term 2023 and awarded the following term. Goody bag image is an example, contents may differ.)
