Creating a Writing-Friendly Environment At Home

As a young writer, it's important to have a writing-friendly environment at home where you can be creative and focused.

Here are some tips for creating a writing-friendly environment that will help you be the best writer you can be!

Find a comfortable and quiet space
Find a quiet space in your home where you can focus on your writing without any distractions. This could be a corner of your bedroom or a quiet area in the living room. Make sure it's a comfortable space where you can sit for long periods of time.

Say goodbye to distractions
Remove any distractions that may prevent you from focusing on your writing. Turn off your phone, TV, and any other electronic devices that could interrupt your writing flow. You may also want to let your family members know that you are writing and ask them not to disturb you during this time.

Get your writing supplies together
Make sure you have all the writing supplies you need, such as a notebook, pens, pencils, and a laptop or tablet (and make sure it’s charged or plugged in!). Having everything you need within reach will help you to stay focused on your writing without any interruptions.

Create a writing routine
Creating a writing ritual can help you get into the right mindset for writing. This could be as simple as playing music that inspires you, or preparing a writing snack. Try to write at a set time each day so that it becomes a habit.

Surround yourself with inspiration
Hang up inspiring quotes, pictures, or artwork that inspire you to write. Surrounding yourself with things that motivate you can help you to stay focused and inspired.

Find a writing group
See if your school or library has a writing group you can join. Finding other young writers can be a great way to stay motivated and share your ideas, and you can offer each other support. Writing can be a solitary activity, so it's nice to know there are other people out there who love writing as much as you do.

Read widely and often
Reading is a great way to improve your writing skills. Make sure you read widely and often, including different genres and styles of writing. This will help you to develop your own unique voice and writing style.

By following these tips, you'll be able to create a space that inspires creativity and helps you to focus on your writing. Don’t forget to check out the competitions page on our website to enter your writing for the chance to be published and win prizes!

P.S. Have you seen The Complete Writers’ Toolkit? Available in both Junior and Young Adult editions, it will guide you through writing a novel, and you can even design a cover and get REAL copies of your book printed, all included!
