SPaG Monsters' Grammar Guide - Antonyms & Synonyms

We're back with another handy tip to support you and your young writers!

Here we are back with another tip to help you and therefore help your children, with that pesky grammar vocabulary. Today, we’re looking at antonyms and synonyms:

Synonym

This is a word or phrase that means the same, or nearly the same, as the starter word. Example:

Cold- freezing, icy, chilly

Antonym

This is a word or phrase that means the opposite of the starter word. Example:

Cold- warm, hot, toasty

The easiest way to remember the difference is by thinking of the ‘s’: A synonym is the same.

Now that you’re an expert in the difference between an antonym and a synonym, check out the Balancing Bats game in SPaG Monsters. It’s perfect for practising your new knowledge.
