Can you tell us what you do here at Young Writers?
I am the go-to Web person. Over the last couple of years, we've had a new website, new teacher accounts, a blog, and more. My job is to try and keep us improving as a tool and service to our wonderfully talented writers and their parents and teachers.
Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, what do you like to do outside of work?
My main thing is football. I've played semi-professionally for far too long now! I'm getting to the twilight of my career though so I think it could be golf next! Other than that, the usual kind of thing really, seeing mates, pubs, weekends away, all the good stuff.
What’s your favourite thing about Young Writers?
It's got to be the enjoyment our young writers get out of seeing their work published, the confidence they get from it and just providing an avenue for the more creative souls to get to work really. You can see that from the team at Young Writers too; it's what drives them!
What is a typical day in the life for yourself?
Very different to pre-pandemic! I'm usually still sat working in my pants gone midday these days...
But seriously, I'm pretty much straight up and into work now. The benefit of having your office next to your bedroom! I try to do a bit of fitness work where I can at lunch, then the afternoon seems to be when my brain is at full flow, so this is where the serious work gets done.
What's your favourite book of all time?
This may get edited as it's pretty much sacrilege whilst being part of the Young Writers team... but I don't really read! 🙈 The last one I can remember reading is Alex Ferguson's autobiography. So being a big United fan, I'll go with that!
What's the best thing you've worked on here at Young Writers?
Probably the last few things, the shop was really cool to make, the teacher accounts, and this delightful little blog you're reading now. I enjoy making things that people can interact with and are useful, so they were pretty good to work on.
Shoutout to Simon for taking the time to answer our questions! Whenever you head to our website, read a blog or log in to your account, you now know who made it all possible.
