Gemma is the smiling face of Young Writers, she’s the head of customer service and handles all the questions our young writers and their parents may have.

Gemma comes into work with rays of sunshine beaming out of her. She's the friendly face in the office and the one who runs the team lucky enough to work with all our customers. We wanted to share Gemma's amazingness with the world, so check out our interview below!

So tell us who are you, what do you do at Young Writers?

I’m Gemma, the Young Writers Customer Care Manager. I answer the phone and respond to emails from parents and teachers, wanting help or to ask questions about Young Writers. I love talking, so this is my ideal job! I’ve worked here for many, many years and love Young Writers. My little boy recently had his first piece of work published, he was so proud.

What is your favourite thing about Young Writers?

This is a hard one; there are so many things about Young Writers which is great! My favourite would be how we help young people to become published poets. We have adults contact us after 20+ years, remembering they had a piece of work published and wanting to get the book to show their family and friends. When we get calls and emails like this, it always brings a smile to my face.

What do you do outside of Young Writers?

Outside of work, I spend time with my husband, 2 young children and our puppy Pippa. We enjoy going to the seaside, for long walks and baking cakes!

What is your favourite book of all time?
I don’t get a lot of time to read books for myself nowadays! I love the Superworm book by Julia Donaldson. This is a firm favourite of my children too; with the Highway Rat book coming a close second. We have to read them at least once a week!

Thanks Gemma!

Next time you send an email to Young Writers, you may just be able to put a face to the name!
