Our production department is where the magic happens, and Carl is the magician in charge. From printing all the wonderful work we get into anthologies, to the construction of our brand new Junior and Young Adult Toolkits, Carl manages the creation of all our wonderful Young Writers' gold.
Can you tell us a little about what you do at Young Writers?
I oversee all the printing and finishing of all Young Writers' products. The whole process from paper to book is under my wing. We make anything from the anthologies to the workbooks and planners for the new toolkits, we even get sneak peeks at all the books before they're available to the public.
What about outside of work, what do you get up to?
I spend a lot of time at Young Writers which is always fun, but when I'm free I like spending time with my family. We often go for long walks with my husky, Bear, and I really enjoy going fishing with friends on the weekends!
What's your favourite thing about Young Writers?
Getting all the books out! We print such special and important things here, and seeing them leave is the best bit! We put a lot of work into making sure every book, every toolkit, every certificate is perfect, they're so important to lots of young writers and it's our job to make sure they're all the best they can be. I also love getting to see all the books before they're available to the public, it almost feels exclusive, and we even have a read of some of the pieces in the anthologies sometimes.
What are you most proud of working in production?
There are lots of us that work hard to make these books so special, and it's that teamwork that makes everything so great. My team has always been phenomenal and we all love what we do, which makes it even better.
