"Musical Truth: A Musical History of Modern Black Britain in 28 Songs" is a fantastic new book from author Jeffrey Boakye and illustrated by Ngadi Smart.

Jeffrey Boakye used his knowledge and experience as a teacher to explore 28 songs that reveal "crucial aspects of British history, the empire and postcolonialism". The book includes songs such as "Vossi Bop" by Stormzy and "Buffalo Stance" by Neneh Cherry to "21 Seconds" by So Solid Crew. There's even a YouTube playlist where you can hear the songs as you read the book.

Boakye said: "Black British history is woefully under-represented in the mainstream curriculum. The stories and histories of black communities are an essential part of British history overall. Musical Truth aims to bring these narratives to the forefront through music and words, something I feel incredibly passionate about."

You can read the first chapter of "Musical Truth: A Musical History of Modern Black Britain in 28 Songs" here and grab yourself a copy of this interesting and important book at Faber's website or any good bookshop.
