As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow By Zoulfah Katouh

A book review by Mariam Zaheer, aged 14

Ever since I read "As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow" By Zoulfah Katouh I fell in love with it. It is based on how the wars in Syria are not really mentioned in this day and age and how they struggle for survival. It gives a clear picture of reality. The main character in the book is Layla, but personally, my favourite character is Khawf, her hallucination. He is a very mysterious person in the story. Whilst I read this book I really did reflect on how we should care for the rest of the world and it made me feel really upset, but there are other parts in the book where it felt as if a flicker of hope was glowing in the dark.

The book was so good that I managed to read it within a week, and my mum said that she wants to read it now after listening to my long praises about this book. If you are someone who enjoys a good twist then this is the book for you!
