Angels & Demons by Dan Brown

A book review by Maryam

The book i'll be reviewing is 'Angels & Demons' by Dan Brown. I stumbled upon this book in my school library and though it's not what I usually go for I decided I might as well give it a read.

'Angels & Demons' is a thriller novel and the first book of the Robert Langdon franchise and while I can't speak for the rest of the book series, this novel is worth a read.

In the novel the secret ancient brotherhood known as the Illuminati, thought to have been defunct, resurface to settle their continuing rivalry against their long-standing enemy, the Catholic Church. Robert Langdon, a Harvard historian, is thrown into a time-bound adventure as he races to decrypt a trail of historic symbols to defeat the illuminati. To make matters worse a deadly weapon falls into the wrong hands, and if it is not found in time many innocent lives will pay the price.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because it was action-packed, fast-paced and it was filled with constant suspense which kept me on my toes. There is a major twist at the end of the book which I could not have predicted and it made me doubt all the assumptions I had already made about the characters and their allegiances.

Amazon commented that the novel is “A no-holds-barred, pull-out-all-the-stops, breathless tangle of a thriller” and I have to agree.
