From the 7th - 20th November The Northern Children's Book Festival is taking place. Children will have the opportunity to meet their favourite authors and talk about the books they love. Over 40 well-known writers, poets and illustrators will be visiting schools and libraries throughout the festival period. A gala is also taking place from the 19th - 20th November allowing children, parents, carers and families to enjoy all that the festival has to offer.

Ms Lawson, part of the English Department from Gryffe High School, shared her excitement in the school's newsletter about a group of students who attend the school. The students sent their poems to Young Writers' Poetry Matters competition and have been informed that 27 of them have been accepted and published! Students featured in Poetry Matters - Glasgow and Southern Scotland.

Four-year-old Ella Foster has been announced as one of Mansfield's youngest poets.
Ella attends Whizzkids Playgoup in Nottingham where the nursery leaders have encouraged her and other children from the nursery to use their young imaginations and create a poem about their favourite day out using the templates provided. Templates are used to give 'first example of poetry and writing a creative piece'.

Sue Homewood is a teacher and she recognised the talent of one of her pupils Robyn Lacey. Sue contacted the organisers after the submission closing date and they were so impressed with Robyn’s poetry, they invited her to perform her poem at the awards ceremony at the O2 Arena on Thursday 16th July 2010.

Every year, football clubs across the UK pick a Reading Champion to select a children's book and an adult book which has inspired them. This year, Portsmouth's goalie, David James, has selected a Young Writers' book from the Mini Sagas series. Also England’s goalie, David James is the only Reading Champion to have been selected every year since the Premier League Reading Stars programme was formed.

Here at Young Writers we are delighted to announce that a donation of £500 was made to Wessex Heartbeat at Christmas.
Beth Jordan’s inspirational poem, ‘No One Famous’ - about Marcus Haw, her consultant cardiac surgeon, was published in Poetry Explorers - Poems from Hampshire with 10% of the sales promised to the charity.
