Dead Poets

The ‘Dead Poets’ are Peterborough based writers and performers Mark Grist and MC Mixy.

Since forming in 2008, Mark and Mixy have been challenging the preconceptions of poetry and hiphop across the country. As ‘Dead Poets,’ they have performed in venues ranging from nightclubs to secondary schools; from festivals to formal dinners. They’ve appeared on Radio 6 Live with Steve Merchant and have recently been on a National tour with Phrased and Confused.

‘Dead Poets’ have recently completed a month-long show at The Banshee Labyrinth as part of the Edinburgh Fringe. They are available for school workshops and other events – for further information and to contact the guys please visit www.deadpoetry.co.uk. Remember to quote ‘Young Writers’ when enquiring about workshops to receive your 10% discount.

“A fascinating combination of words, rhythm and rhymes; within seconds the audience is hooked until the end – 4 stars”
Giulia D’Amico, ThreeWeeks

"What do you get if you mix a hip hop MC with the former Poet Laureate of Peterborough? Answer: a funny and insightful combination of two art forms that have much in common, but are rarely seen in the same room. Through the story of their unlikely partnership, Mark Grist and MC Mixy use their different forms of lyrical wordplay to break down the clichés associated with both of their musical genres - 4 stars"
The Scotsman

"If you are knowledgeable in the works of Seamus Heaney, go to this show. If you’re more familiar with Eminem’s discography, go to this show. These two performers are naturally talented in the use of spoken word (both having proudly been the Poet Laureate of Peterborough) and it’s quite surprising that their shows are free, their hard work and dedication is obvious - 4 stars"
Laura Jones, Edinburgh ScreenWorks

"Not only did the likes of Mixy and Mark Grist (Dead Poets) inspire me with their performances, but they also gave us a glimpse of what the Edinburgh spoken word scene could be like with a greater influx of outside influences. I have a lot of love for my fellow local poets, but these guys ramped everything up a notch, encouraging us to enter freestyle competitions and open mics, and performing impromptu poetry gigs after their own shows for ... well, whoever was there really!"
