The Nobody Hero
Tayyib Mubashar (14)

In every dark corner, evil always lies
A sly grin from cheek to cheek and hate in its eyes
But for every dark corner, a hero will arise
Helping those in need and helping all the cries

Yet the darkest evil lies within
Where no other hero shall wipe out the sin
Unlike fairy tales we hear above the din
A hero will arise, but only from within

Walking down the street, a commoner at mind
A heart of pure gold and intentions are kind
A cry can be heard, a cry from behind
Our hero confused, with rage he is blind

Dashing through the streets, our hero revived
His heart pumping and racing inside
Finally with relief, the woman he finds
‘Don’t try to catch me!’ the thief advised

Our hero he races, sprinting through the streets
Over walls and houses, has the thief got him beat?
But out of the blue the thief he meets
They kick and punch, neither retreat

The thief falls to his demise
Our hero returns, strong and wise
Returns the bag and says his goodbyes
A hero rose and again shall rise

He returns, vanishing into the night
Returning to his common self, resting for tonight
A hero rose mustering all his might
A hero not in costume but a heart burning bright

But in every dark corner, evil always lies
A sly grin from cheek to cheek and hate in its eyes . . .

A Never-Ending Torrent Of Abuse
Shona Lavelle (14)

A tiny raindrop of hate
falling, falling
seeping into their minds
Rotting away logic and reason

leaving only,
the burning red anger,
and a never-ending torrent of abuse
that flows from mouth and fist alike.

Like the river now created
formed from hate and anger.
Flows not water but agony,
separating . . . segregating . . . isolating.

All official signs removed,
replaced with an amiable air.
Yet lurking underneath,
the distinct taste of despair.

Have You Ever?
Maddi Pownall (13)

Have you ever acted like a child,
In hopes of becoming a man?
Have you ever tried to break a heart,
Just because you can?

Have you ever done something you know is wrong,
Just to watch the effect?
Have you ever loved a stranger,
Or done something you soon did regret?

Have you ever looked at someone twice,
Only to realise you’re wrong?
Have you ever loved someone forever,
Then realised forever’s too long?

Have you ever put your hand in a fire,
Just to feel the burn?
Have you ever made a mistake twice,
But from this refused to learn?

Have you tried to find danger,
Simply for the thrill.
Have you ever tried loving me?
’Cause you should know I always will.

A Gentle Island
Basiratulann Shahid (14)

An ivory fountain of roses,
Across the forest river,
A garland of birds and trees,
Amongst a cake of morning mist.

The silver silk of webs glittering
in the light; spiders follow
in their descent; and paper
butterflies flood the lake.

The journey of freedom to a gentle island,
A seasonal gallery of dolphins reflect,
They draw a dance in the lilac-blue storm,
Engraving the clouds in a mineral shiver.

A sparrow runs a golden-white cloth
across the midday canvas,
And paints the sun cream and peach,
Leaving a hole in the sky to breathe.

An ivory fountain of roses,
Across the forest river,
A garland of birds and trees,
Filling your mind with ease.

You can write my name on a piece of paper,
But the wind will blow it away.
You can write my name on a text message,
But it can just get deleted.
You can write my name on a postcard,
But you mistakenly send it the wrong way.
You can write my name on the sand,
But the water would wash it away.
You can write my name in your memory,
But you might forget me anyway.
You write my name in your heart,
There forever I will stay.
