The Path Of Least Resistance
Ellen Mahenthiralingam (13)
She walked the path of least resistance,
A path to discover who she one day could be,
It led her to an expanse of knowledge and learning,
That was buried deep in the heart of the sea.
The water washed away her arrogance,
She became acquainted with the great blue ocean,
Never again did she doubt the wisdom of others,
Instead her mind was left peaceful and open.
Prepared for the waves of new beginnings,
She continued her journey on a ship of dreams,
She pursued her ambitions on a quest for knowledge,
Knowing that everything is not always as it seems.
Riding the ocean she anticipated storms,
Storms that would shake her on her quest,
But she was ready for the blows that hit her boat,
She knew, somehow, that she would pass every test.
Finally when she came to the end of her journey,
She was wise from the things she had lost and found,
She knew she could rest knowing what she had achieved,
And it was on the path of least resistance that she left the Earth’s ground. |
This Year My Life Changes
Corrinna Turner (14)
I’ve never painted a perfect picture,
Or written a winning poem.
I’ve never been good at games,
Or been chosen for the cross-country team.
I’ve never been outstanding in any lessons,
Or had brilliant exam marks.
This year is going to be different,
I will be the one chosen for something.
They will know they have picked the shiniest gem out of them all,
I will be proud.
I will also know I have achieved my goal,
Which was to be recognised. |

Resolutions
Abigail Tidbury (15)
You can make them
You can break them
You will try
Then you’ll cry
If you don’t win
You’ll give in
You’ll give up
Have no luck
You’ll feel down
You will frown
You will moan
And you’ll groan
Lose your way
Then you’ll say . . .
There’s always next year. |

New Year Poem
Favour Okoli
A new year . . .
A new year has come!
No carry overs! Let us remain in perfect health and celebrate.
A new year with new goals,
A new year where we will try our best to achieve all our goals,
A new year where our goals shall be accomplished,
A new year filled with showers of blessings from God,
January till December!
A new year, another year added to our age
With new things every day
A new year, is always new
Wishing
You a happy new year!

A Dream For Late 2010 - University!
Alice Keel (17)
So here it is: another box,
Another cardboard shell . . .
I’ll fill it up with all my dreams
And all my hopes as well.
I’ll seal the lid, and if I’m down
I’ll poke a tiny hole,
And reinstate my wishes
So I don’t dissolve my goal . . .
With good results, and better vision
And don’t forget a heart,
I’ll throw myself into a course
And work hard from the start . . .
But take time to make new friends,
And try out different things,
And in the future these will be
The feathers on my wings.
I’ll study all the maladies,
Disorders, sickness, illness -
Support the weak, treat the sick,
And create some peace and stillness.
To find my feet at such an age
Is truly something magic -
And with a goal I’ll lend a hand
To stop things being tragic . . .
But if I slip, or stick too soon,
At least I’ll have the past,
Full of warm and yellow memories:
My box will always last. |

My 2010
Katy Brown (15)
2009 was supposed to be the time
When I would achieve my dreams.
But here I am one year later,
And I’ve gone nowhere it seems.
2010 is the year I will set my sights high,
The year that my peers will ask, ‘Why
Didn’t we notice her before?’
2010 promises me so much more.
I’m going to smile,
And make my work worthwhile.
I’m going to find my secret skill,
And I’m not going to be run-of-the-mill.
I promise to make myself proud,
I am going to rise above the crowd
And say to everyone who doubted me,
‘Just you wait and see what 2010 has in store for me!’
2009 may have had its high and low,
And I may not have a clue, as to how 2010 it will go,
But one thing’s for sure, let me make it clear,
2010 is going to be my year!

To Keep My Resolutions
Kathryn Yates (13)
To see
Everything
To hear
Everything
To taste
Everything
To smell
Everything
To keep my resolutions
To learn
Something
To teach
Something
To admire
Something
To help
Something
To love
Something
To keep my resolutions. |
