Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell
Paul and Chris are the creative duo behind the fantasy themed the ‘Edge Chronicles’. This year sees the release of their new trilogy, ‘Wyrmeweald’, set in a land of dragon-like creatures. We asked them some questions in the latest issue of Wordsmith, and we have put some extra bits on here for you. Check out our current themes to see how you can win yourself a signed copy of the new book!
If you could be any character out of any book, who would you be?
Chris would be the spindlebug, Tweezle, who was wise and long-lived, offering him an overview of the historical events of the 100 years that comprises the three Edge trilogies. Paul would be Rook Barkwater, who was brave and handsome and learned how to build and fly his very own sky craft.
What book are you reading at the moment?
Chris is reading a book of John Cheever's short stories. I am reading ‘Northline’ by Willy Vlautin. We both very much enjoy American fiction, particularly the novels of Anne Tyler and Richard Yates.
If you hadn’t met each other in 1998, what do you think you would both be doing now?
We'd both be doing what we are doing now. I would be writing and Chris illustrating, but separately, rather than collaborating.
