Wordsmith – Your work, your say, your magazine…

Wordsmith is a quarterly magazine jam-packed with creative work from 11-18 year-olds. Each issue we invite budding young poets and authors to send in their poetry, stories, letters and artwork for possible inclusion in the magazine. It gives the opportunity for you to showcase your work to other people your own age and to express your views and feelings to others. We select pieces of work to win prizes each issue and we set themes for you to write about to challenge your creativity.

Our regular features and pages are as follows…

Pen2Paper

Have your say on the things that matter to you.

Art Gallery

Your creative artwork.

Biography

We feature a famous author/poet and tell you all about their life and works.

Guest Author

We put a successful author under the spotlight and they answer our questions.

Your Poetry

This is the non-themed poetry section. You can send us any poetry you have been inspired to write!

Your Stories

The section for showing off your short stories (250 words max). We leave the theme for you to decide!

Poetry Workshop

An educational yet fun challenge! Each issue we explore a weird and wonderful poetry style, explain how it works and then ask you to have a go at writing your own.

Discussion Page

We pick a topic for discussion and debate that can be seen from two sides. You write in with your views. Previous discussion topics have included fox hunting and the credit crunch.

Next Generation Author

Two pages dedicated to one Wordsmith reader’s own work. We include a photo, a short biography and then a selection of your poems, stories, or both! Your chance to showcase your writing talents to the world.

Our current themes have now closed. We do accept work between issues, so do send us your stories and artwork!

Entries should be posted to Wordsmith, Remus House, Coltsfoot Drive, Peterborough, PE2 9JX or email admin@youngwriters.co.uk with 'Wordsmith' as the subject line. Don't forget to state which section you are entering! You do not have to be a Wordsmith subscriber to send work to the magazine, and should your work be one of the winners, you will receive a copy of the magazine featuring your piece.
