Current Themes - Issue 44

Bump In The Night ...

With Halloween fast approaching Scribbler! is feeling the need to be spooked! Here's where you guys come in. We are looking for the most goosebump-producing, hair-standing-on-end, scary stories that you guys can produce. Could your story be set in a graveyard or maybe a castle? Will it feature ghosts, vampires or terrifying werewolves? It's up to you, the only catch is it must be hauntingly scary so thinking caps on. Our favourite spine-tingling stories will feature next issue and the winner will receive the full set of Scream Street books by Tommy Donbavand and a £10 WHSmith voucher.

Announcing Autumn

With summer soon to retire, autumn is just waiting around the corner, time once again for the cooler, darker nights, tights, trousers, long-sleeved tops and thicker covers at night. But never fear Autumn also signals Halloween, Bonfire Night, mugs of hot chocolate and plenty of leaves to jump in! Autumn is said to be the least favourite season but what is your opinion? Why not write a poem about what autumn means to you, the good or the bad? Our favourite poem will win an mp3 player and a selection of books, a perfect prize to keep you entertained once the evenings fall dark!

Miniature Marvels

We are setting all you Scribbler! readers a challenge, the challenge being to write your own mini saga – a 50 word story. What's more we are not setting a theme on your story, so you can choose to write whatever you wish to write about. For example, how about writing a space mini saga, a war mini saga or an adventure short story? The possibilities are endless! Just remember a mini saga can only be 50 words or under and must have a beginning, middle and end just like any story. Our favourites will appear next issue and the winner will win An Explores Handbook, A Space Travellers Handbook and a Scribbler! goodie bag.

Remember, we also accept stories and poems on any theme throughout the year!

Include your name, age, address and which theme or competition you are entering.
