David James selects Mini Sagas – London & Hertfordshire as his favourite book!

David James
Every year, football clubs across the UK pick a Reading Champion to select a children's book and an adult book which has inspired them. This year, Portsmouth's goalie, David James, has selected a Young Writers' book from the Mini Sagas series. Also England’s goalie, David James is the only Reading Champion to have been selected every year since the Premier League was formed.

What is the Premier League Reading Stars (PLRS) programme?

This project uses football to encourage children to pick up a book and get reading.

Each of the 20 Premier League teams select a 'Reading Champion' to recommend his favourite book. The clubs then each pick three public libraries to hold a reading club for families based on the book choices of all 20 Premiership Reading Champions.

The Premier League produce bookmarks and posters, working with local schools and libraries, to promote reading for children and families. Families can attend the reading club, enjoy a visit to a bookshop, as well as a session with a published football author.
