Beth’s poem makes headlines!

Beth Jordan

When asked to write an ‘inspirational’ poem for Young Writers’ latest poetry competition, Poetry Explorers, Beth Jordan composed a poem that stood out from the rest.

No celebrities or famous historical characters for her. Instead, Beth based her poem 'No One Famous' on Mr Marcus Haw, her consultant cardiac surgeon at the Wessex Cardiac Centre. At just 11 years of age, Beth has already undergone three major heart operations under the care of Mr Haw, and faces further surgery in her teens.  Showing so much bravery and courage, Beth is an inspiration to everyone. She says in her poem, ‘I really want to be like him, to help save people’s lives.’

Beth’s poem ‘No One Famous’ will shortly be published in Poetry Explorers – Poems From Hampshire. Click here to read her poem.

Forward Press will be donating 10% of the sales from Poetry Explorers – Poems From Hampshire to Wessex Heartbeat Charity, which aims to raise £1.2 million to provide a purpose-built 23 bed Young Adults Cardiac Unit at Southampton General Hospital.
